I received this email from John.

Dear Sir:

While I can understand your need to keep your cost of travels down, I must disagree if you suggest R.V. parking in the truck parking areas of commercial truck stops.

There is a nationwide shortage of parking spaces for commercial trucks whose solo drivers are required by law to stop and sleep 10 continous hours after every 10-11 hrs. driving, and many areas will not let them park on the street or on off-ramps or even rest areas for that long. They are also required to stop for 36 hrs. after 70 hrs. of driving.

RV'ers don't have the same legal restrictions, and their use of truck parking may mean that a driver is driving sleepy and/or illegally because he couldn\'t find the parking place at a truck stop he needed.

For example at the Flying J in Dallas, and Phoenix and both T/A's in Ontario, CA, you need to be there before 4pm many time if you want parking space. Been there, done that.

Thank You

he also offered the following tip :

A tip I was given from a Berkeley CA policeman, when I was notified that I could no longer overnight at the Berkeley CA Marina:    Look for commercial or industrial areas, and if you see trucks parked at the curb, on the street it should be legal for a RV to park there too.

In my travels, I watch for where 18 wheelers are parked and sleeping, besides truck stops.

I figure I can overnight  my motorcoach there also, if I need to when I'm in the area.
